Sameem's Unique Addiction Treatment IOP Design

Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treatment in Sameem’s Unique IOP Design

Over the course of 40 years serving people in MetroWest Boston, Sameem has developed a unique approach to our Intensive Outpatient Program design. We strongly believe that our model delivers better care with higher success rates than designs at most providers, which restrict newly sober patients to contact only with other newly-sober patients.

At the heart of our program design are our long-term groups, with people who participate in Sameem’s Long-term Health Living program for years. In fact, between 35% - 40% of Sameem’s patient census at any given time has been attending for 3 years or more. Whether it’s a 20 year old who initially attended unwillingly in high school, or a 75 year old whose troubles began during the isolation of the COVID pandemic, these long-term members have years of experience and sober living behind them. They continue to attend to maintain and enhance their healthy lifestyles.

This allows Sameem to provide remarkable flexibility in designing each person’s IOP care program. Like most IOPs, Sameem’s group therapy forms the basis of the program. However …

  • IOP groups are integrated – newly sober IOP patients participate in groups with experienced members.
  • Customized groups – two new Intensive Outpatient Program members may not attend the same groups. One may attend a women’s group or a trauma group while another may attend groups for mindfulness or opioid users. Both may see each other in Relapse Prevention groups. In all these groups, most participants will be veterans with months or years of sobriety, providing a much better environment for newly-sober attendees.
  • Flexible schedules – people can often attend work and school while participating. Rarely does a patient need to attend a session before 3PM or even 4PM. Given our range of group options, we can often accommodate specific requests based upon given days of the week.
  • Professionally led groups - groups are led by therapists or graduate students in our professional training program. Many IOP programs have sessions led by less experienced professionals, but Sameem has found our model to provide the best care over our 40 years of experience.
  • Step downs happen when ready - step downs to lower levels of care happen as soon as one is read. Most programs offer only a part of the full recovery process so everyone completes the program over the same period.  Sameem offers support across the full recovery process and which makes it easy to graduate individuals as they progress at their own speed.

At Sameem, your IOP program is customized to what works best for your wether that is two weeks or two months.
