Intensive Outpatient Programs for Drug Addiction and Alcoholism

Maybe drug addiction or alcohol use disorder landed you in a medical detox or residential program for the first time.

Maybe you’ve relapsed in drug addiction or alcoholism, or you have suffered a mental health crisis.  We’re here for you.

People in our Intensive Outpatient Programs for drug abuse or alcohol use disorder typically receive about 3 hours of services daily, 3 or even 5 times each week to help get back on track. Time commitments fall as they get back on their feet. As always, we customize programs to meet each person’s needs. If your goal is to continue to work or attend classes, we can usually schedule to accommodate your schedule.

Intensive Outpatient Programs for Alcohol Use Disorder or Drug Addiction

People in Intensive Outpatient Programs are often in a crisis or just emerging from one. In addition to your individual goals, you’ll typically work with other people on:

  • Avoiding abuse of alcohol and/or drugs
  • Recognizing and redirecting unsafe thoughts and behaviors
  • Improving your response you suffer symptoms such as depression and anxiety
  • Bettering your daily life
  • Developing coping and problem-solving skills
  • Strengthening relationships home with family, in school, at work, and in other social circles
  • Avoiding isolation

Sameem’s Intensive Outpatient Programs for drug abuse or alcoholism provide 9-15 hours of programming per week.

Alcoholism & Drug Addiction - What does it look like?

Here are some examples of treatment plans for people in Intensive Outpatient Programs.

Jess

Jess has spent the last three weeks in a detox.

She entered Sameem’s day program for Intensive Outpatient Therapy (IOP), initially 4 days weekly. After two weeks, she reduces to 3 days weekly, and returns to work - full days twice weekly and working until 2:30PM on her IOP days.

Jess also receives Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) to reduce cravings.

Avi

Avi is coming out of a residential program for substance use disorder (SUD) and depression.

Avi is lucky not to have to work or attend school for a while. Knowing that both depression and addiction are diseases of isolation, they initially come to Sameem IOP sessions on all 5 days. As they feel better, they plan to step back to 4, then 3, and eventually to an Enhanced Support care plan.

Gregory

Gregory has had an alcohol relapse after years of sobriety.

Some family members encouraged him to enter residential care, but he wanted to avoid losing time at work. In collaboration with his HR department, he arranged a schedule that allows him to leave at 2:30PM, three times weekly while he attends the Sameem Intensive Outpatient Program for three weeks.

Shannon

Shannon woke up in the local Emergency Room having her stomach pumped. Realizing that drinking and drugging had overtaken her college life, she committed to learning to live sober and entered Sameem’s IOP program. She also receives Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) to reduce cravings.

Shannon plans to stay in college, complete the semester, and graduate on time.
